Funds meet in La Paz to discuss the BCID system

Nine RedLAC Environmental Funds of the Andes-Amazon region met in La Paz (Bolivia) for a coordination meeting of the BCID project. BCID - the Biodiversity Conservation Investment Database - is an online system that will register and monitor the major investments in conservation in the region of Andes-Amazon.

Oyster reefs: only 15% left

The first global assessment of the distribution and condition of bivalve shellfish reefs estimates that 85% of oyster reefs have been lost over the past 150 years. The results were found by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), that released this week the report Shellfish Reefs at Risk: a Global Analysis of Problems and Solutions.

World Ocean Conference highlights climate change impacts on marine biodiversity

Ministers and officials from more than 76 countries met in the Indonesian port city of Manado last week for the World Ocean Conference (WOC), where they discussed the impact of climate change on the world's oceans, and agreed to push ocean issues as an agenda at the United Nations climate talks.

Coral reefs threatened around the world

About one-fifth of the world's coral reefs have already been lost or severely damaged, while another 35 percent could be lost within the next decades, according to the latest report of the Global Coral Reef Monitoring Network (GCRMN).
